Peter Ashby
Peter Ashby writes with passion and insight on diverse topics, from little-known aspects of Spanish travel and history to wildlife conservation, botany and gardening. As well as contributing regularly to Suite 101, he writes for his own website, North From Granada at http://www.northfromgranada.com on a wide range of subjects, including Spanish culture, history, language, natural history and environment.
From graphic designer and registered mental health nurse to plantsman and wildlife rehabilitation specialist, from the fjords of New Zealand to the geysers of Iceland and the remote Scottish Hebridean Islands, he has travelled extensively and has worked in a range of interesting and demanding settings.
Originally from England, Peter now lives in the scenic Sierra de Huétor, in the southern Spanish province of Granada, where he runs ABC Bulbs and Seeds, a small specialist nursery mailing seeds worldwide and propagating rare and unusual bulbs, corms and aroids. In addition to his specialist dementia care nursing experience, he has a Higher National Diploma in Environmental Land Management and an extensive appreciation of conservation and environmental issues. As a keen walker, he has explored the region in search of rare orchids and historical sites, and his great interest in Spain has led to a growing appreciation of all aspects of the country and the language.
Peter´s personal mantra regarding writing is: write with passion, knowledge and eloquence, and produce work that is interesting, informative and accessible to an international readership. Through his articles, he seeks to convey his great enthusiasm for gardening, wildlife, history and a host of other topics and to challenge the "beach, bar and bargain" stereotypes regarding the fascinating and often misunderstood country of Spain. He is constantly seeking to broaden his portfolio and encounter new and exciting opportunities to write.
